A poem by Raileigh Duschen, author of Phoenix Medicines - A Transformative Journey through Consciousness.
I’m done being wild
I’m no longer managing a farm. I don’t expect to manage a farm ever again. I don’t want to get paid to grow food just like I don’t want to be paid to hold space for a friend, or to be a mother.
But I am a woman, a brown and spiritual woman, so I need to survive here.
I don’t want to put myself in danger, to be used and exploited. I don’t want to sell drugs — pharmaceuticals included, and I don’t want to sell poison and plastic. I want to respect the Earth.
I just want to pray and take a nap. I want to listen to music and dance and breathe, and forage berries with my sweetheart. I want to read and to write books. I stopped reading because I’ve been too busy creating. I want to cook meals for 20-30 people at a time. I want to speak to thousands of people at a time. I want to warp consciousness and break paradigms. I want to expel demons from the atmosphere. I want the White man to pay reparations to African Americans and be at peace with himself. I want the Indigenous to be worshipped. I want Unity and Respect for all people. I want Love to invade the Earth. I don’t want to be wild, but I want to be free to say what I said without risk of blackout and murder.
This is not my home this is where I landed. Don’t shame me for my endless roaming, do not hate me for changing my mind. Love me as I am. Let me be angry, and disappointed. Let me cry for the plants and for the water as much as I cry for starving babies and abandoned souls.
Did I say anything that is not rooted in compassion?
Am I full of myself for not wanting to die here?
May I receive happiness?
Can I be sheltered…
Hm?
Hm?
